MTG Spacecraft Operations Preparation Consultant



The Consultant will be integrated into the Operations Preparation Integrated Team (OPIT) of the Meteosat Third Generation Programme (MTG).

Technical Requirements

· Contribution to the MTG system operations concepts for the spacecraft operations related topics.

· Support the specification and reviews of the different operations related elements of the MTG system (including satellites and ground segments).

· Support the specification, development / procurement follow-up and verification and validation for all spacecraft operations preparations tools necessary to complete the operational validation of MTG space and ground segments.

· Support the MTG operations preparations activities, mainly at Space Segment level but also possibly at Ground Segment level, including participation to:

· Production of all relevant plans, procedures and manuals regarding the Operational System Validation, Rehearsals, Training, etc.;

· Review and acceptance of Flight Operations Plans / Manuals; generation and validation of operations procedures;

· Preparation and validation of operational databases;

· Satellite-system validation testing;

· Ground segment validation testing;

· Ensuring the launch readiness of the MTG System.

· Support the satellite simulator development / procurement follow-up and maintenance and provide the necessary input to the simulator team.

· Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings and reviews;

· Participation to the definition and execution of the Operational System Validation activities such as SVTs, rehearsals and the necessary training activities for the various operations personnel prior to system commissioning.

· Support the definition of MTG commissioning activities prior to hand-over to the Operations Department.

Academic Requirements

Academic and work related requirements: a University (or similar) degree in a relevant discipline and several years of work experience in the field of spacecraft operations or satellite operations preparation is required. 
Specific Requirements

· Sound experience with Earth Observation satellite and geostationary satellite,

· Requirement verification, operational validation and commissioning

· Tools and methods supporting the above e.g.

·  DOORS (as a user)

·  Basic knowledge of databases (e.g. Microsoft access)

·  Descriptive languages/tools (e.g. XML, HTML schema)

·  Production programming languages (e.g., C++, Java)

·  Prototyping tools (e.g., Python, IDL/PV-Wave)

·  Perfect command of English, verbal and written

·  Very good French language skills would be a plus


Background information

LSE Space is looking for an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer in order to support the ‘MTG Spacecraft Operations Preparation Engineer Consultancy’. The Consultant will be integrated into the Operations Preparation Integrated Team (OPIT) of the Meteosat Third Generation Programme (MTG).

The MTG Spacecraft Operations Preparation Consultant will mainly participate in the preparation of the operational infrastructure for the MTG satellites programme. Initial activities encompass contributing to the operations documentation such as the operations concept and supporting documentation reviews mainly at space segment level, but also related to space to ground interfaces. Further duties include supporting the establishment of operational documentation and data (e.g. procedures and databases) as well as supporting the operational validation of the entire system prior to launch.

The position will be located mainly at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt; frequent travel is required within Europe.
